Dubai: Countdown begins for Agnesian-Aloysian alumni union


Dubai, Feb 14: As the countdown begins for the most awaited 'Agnesian-Aloysian Reunion-2017', to be held at Crown Plaza Hotel, Sh Zayed Road, Dubai (near World Trade Center) on Friday, February 17, the organizing committee members are striving hard to make this event a huge success.
The event is loaded with scintillating music from 'Fusion Again' a popular band from Dubai with mix of old and new songs in English, Hindi, Tulu, Kannada and Konkani languages. The band is backed by the master mixer DJ Joel will have people glued to the dance floor and asking for more.
Errol Goveas, the multitalented master of ceremony will be compering the event with his impeccable style accompanied by another upcoming MC Rowena Pereira.
The event will kick off at 7 pm sharp (gates open at 6.30 pm) with 'Gulf Nach Baila' semi-finals which is surely going to be a spectacular show for the dance lovers.
The event will continue to hold the audience at the venue spellbound until late night with mix of old and new favorites, spot games, novelty dances and Jive dance competition and lots more. Several attractive prizes are to be won during this exciting event.
Sumptuous dinner will be also served during the event. Dress code is smart casuals.
As the date is fast approaching the chairpersons Vincent and Rosetta Pereira have requested all old students of both prestigious institutions to participate in the event in large numbers with their families and friends on the occasion of 20th anniversary of formation of alumni and not to miss the opportunity of interconnecting with their alma mater.
Fr Swebert D'Silva, principal and Fr Dion Vaz, rector of St Aloysius College and Sr Olivia, ex-principal and Sr Jeswina, principal of St Agnes College will be the guests of honour for this special event.

UAE: Final call - Agnesian-Aloysian meet on Feb 6

UAE, Feb 5: On Friday, February 6, all roads in the UAE will lead to the sprawling Golden Tulip Jazira Hotel and Resort grounds at Ghantoot here for a day of fun, entertainment where the Agnesian and Aloysian alumni/alumnae will converge for Reunion 2015.
It will be a nostalgic moment for many as they will relive their past - the sweet and not so sweet childhood and adolescent moments spent at their respective college/school corridors.
The organizers have urged all the past students to attend with their families. This once in two years event and join in the unique celebration. This is the final call and missing this rare event will be akin to missing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This is also an excellent opportunity for former students to show their gratitude towards their respective institutions.
The completely revamped all Agnesian-Aloysian band with new and young talents will entertain their fellow comrades throughout the day. All band members have put in a lot of effort and promised to entertain with new and old songs with foot tapping music.
The organizers have lined up live music, games, competitions, with sumptuous buffet laid up to make this day unique and memorable.
The organizers say this is the last call to all ex Agnesians and Aloysians and their families to be present at the venue as opportunities like this do not come very often.

UAE, Jan 27: As the countdown begins for the eagerly awaited Agnesian-Aloysian Reunion 2015, the organizers have lined up an electrifying event on Friday February 6 from 10:30 am onwards at the picturesque Golden Tulip Al Jazira Hotel and Resort on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway, with loads of entertainment befitting the past students of India’s the two prestigious colleges based in Mangaluru.

To make the event more exciting and enjoyable, the organizers have planned variety of thrilling games and nail biting competitions which will be announced on the spot at the venue which will be full of surprises and have been kept as secret to create more excitement and fun. The green ambience at the sprawling Al Jazira Resort – the venue of the event will be an unique experience for a perfect day for relaxation and fun.
The re-organized All Aloysian/Agnesian band consisting of professional and amateur musicians and singers with their scintillating foot tapping live music and songs interspersed with eastern and western fusion music backed by DJ music are sure to capture the hearts of the alumni and their families with ample opportunity to dance to their hearts contentment . The experienced musicians have put in lots of efforts to entertain their fellow past students and their families showcasing their extraordinary talent. The ever popular compere Errol Goveas an accomplished entertainer himself will hold the audience spell bound with his unique style and wit.

UAE, May 19: The alumnae/alumni of India’s two prestigious institutions - The St Aloysius and St Agnes Colleges and Schools of Mangalore during their informal meeting appointed veteran Wilson Samuel and Mariel Andrade as the new chairpersons for the Aloysians and Agnesians respectively for the forthcoming 2015 event.
Wison, a talented musician has been a key member of the association since its inception. Mariel has been an active member for the past several years and has played a vital role in planning and organizing entertainment during the past events. These veterans are sure to bring in life with innovative ideas during the next event.
James Mendonca, the past chairperson welcomed the members and their families and thanked the members for their support and cooperation during the last year’s event and assured the cooperation of all members to the newly appointed chairpersons.
The alumnae and alumni gathering generates enthusiastic response from the past old students of these institutions and is a most sought after entertainment event whenever it is presented. More details on the event will be published in this portal in the coming months.
During the same meeting a farewell function was held for Oswald M D’Souza, one of the founder members of the Aloysian Alumni in the UAE and the past chairperson for Aloysians for the 2005 event, who is leaving the UAE shortly after a long stay here.
Oswald has played a key role in organizing Aloysian/Agnesian events since 1997 and has worked behind the scene and has been responsible for the success of the events.
Ronald D’Cunha and Jerome Pereira spoke on the occasion highlighting Oswald’s achievements and wished him good luck and prayers during his retired life.
Wilson and Mariel proposed the vote of thanks.

UAE, Oct 24: The alumnae/alumni of India’s two prestigious institutions - the St Aloysius and St Agnes College and Schools of Mangalore once again will come together for the reunion 2013, which will be held during the first week of February 2013.

This was announced during a brainstorming meeting held between committee members of both colleges in Dubai recently.

The much-awaited high profile and fun event has always generated lot of interest since its inception. The alumni/alumnae of these two great institutions eagerly await for this day long event which is being held normally once in two years, attracting thousands of former students and their families from all over UAE and other Middle Eastern countries.

The organizers speaking to Daijiworld in Abu Dhabi informed that the venue will be announced shortly as and when appropriate arrangements are finalized for the convenience of the attendees.

The meeting which was held in Dubai, unanimously appointed the ever popular and dynamic community leader James Mendonca and Jacintha Mendonca – a social worker as Chairpersons for Aloysians and Agnesians respectively for the forthcoming 2013 Event.

The meeting was attended by past chairpersons and other committee members.

With induction of these two vibrant and charming personalities this coming year’s event is sure to be a runaway success.


During the meeting, various issues were discussed and a general format for the event was planned.

The members pledged their support for the newly appointed Chairpersons and promised to work hard in unison to make this event a great success as usual.

Jerome Pereira (Jemma Padil) the person who was responsible to stage the first ever Aloysian alumni gathering in the UAE and outside India in 1997, explained the objective of the gathering and requested all to work hard to make this event a success.

It must be noted that these great institutions have impacted the lives of thousands of students, regardless of their religion, culture, and ethnic background in their cultural, educational and intellectual values.

St Aloysius College and School, established by the Jesuit Priests over 129 years ago, have produced some of the best stalwarts that have risen to different career successes in different parts of the world! It has diversified its learning processes to suite the modern times and considered as one of the best and highly rated in the country as well as all over the world.

St Agnes College – the all women college, run by the Apostolic Carmel nuns, which has nurtured thousands of young women, who have established themselves successfully in every sphere of life.


The old students of these premier institutions are holding high profile and prominent positions all over the UAE and have proved and established their presence wherever they have reached. Such is the caliber and quality of education of these institutes, which speaks for themselves.

The intention of the organizers is to unite all ex Agnesians and Aloysians with their families for a day of fun and interaction and to recall old memories of their college / school days.

It will be an excellent opportunity for the alumnae/alumni’s to meet and share their past and present among the long lost friends, whom they have not met from ages.

This re-union will be exclusively for the past students and their families.

To make this event a success the organizers have requested all the past students spread all over UAE to come up with new ideas and request volunteers who can render their talent, that is, music, singing, or any other flair they excel in.

The organizers have requested the former students who are spread across the Emirates, especially young enthusiastic past students who are dedicated and hardworking to be part of the organizing committee who can help in garnering sponsorships and be part of the event to make this event a success.

Organizers are planning to induct young and dedicated people to be in the committee to boost their efforts.

The alumni of Mangalore's St Aloysius and St Agnes Colleges in UAE, contributed INR 7,50,000 each towards their alma mater from the proceeds collected during the "Agnesian-Aloysian Alumni Re-union" held on February 10 this year at Al Jazira Hotel and Resort in Ghantoot, which lies on the Dubai - Abu Dhabi Highway.

During their recent visit to Mangalore, on behalf of the Agnesian Alumni Shobha and Jacintha Mendonca handed over the Indian cheque to St Agnes College principal Dr Sr Marie Prem D’Souza. Likewise on behalf of the Aloysian Alumni, James Mendonca handed over a cheque for Indian rupees to Fr Walter Andrade and the principal of the College Fr Swebert D’Silva.

























The managements of both the colleges thanked the Agnesians and Aloysians for their support and regards towards their alma mater.

To date the Agnesians have contributed Indian rupees 22,52,432 since 2001. As specified by the UAE Agnesian Alumni the interest earned from the amount placed in a trust is utilized for the education of underprivileged deserving students in the college.

The funds contributed by the UAE Aloysian Alumni has been utilized as follows:

1997 :Rs 137,800 towards mid-day meals to poor students of college
1999 : Instituted 12 scholarships amounting to Rs 150,000 in St Aloysius College and 5 scholarships amounting to Rs 50,000 in St Aloysius High School, towards education, sports, and extra curricular activities
2001 : Rs 200,000 towards IT building under the name of Aloysian Alumni in the UAE
2005 : Rs 20,000 towards sports kits. Rs 200,000 towards the acquisition of computers and overhead projectors for the college.
2007 : Rs 455,781 towards sponsorship of 5 students and 5 undergraduate students with good academic background.
2009 : Rs 550,000 towards scholarships to poor children
2011 : Rs 7,50,000 towards scholarships to poor children

In total the Aloysian alumni in the UAE have contributed IRS 25,93,581 towards various schemes outlined above since 1997 till to date.

The concept of alumni movement was started in the UAE way back in 1997 with the initiative of Jerome Pereira - veteran Konkani writer along with like-minded Aloysians based in the UAE. This concept has now spread all over the Gulf and other countries.

The first re-union of the Aloysians was held on November 22, 1997 at Al Jazeera Resort in Ghantoot, Dubai-Abu Dhabi Highway under the chairmanship of Jerome Pereira:

The second re-union was held on January 22, 1999 under the chairmanship of Robert Rego at Al Mafraq Hotel, Abu Dhabi.

In 2001 onwards the Agnesians in the UAE joined the Aloysians and the first combined re-unioin was held under the chairmanship of Ronald D’Cunha and Obaida Shawkat. Following a lull for three years the next re-union was held at Al Jazira Resorts under the chairmanship of Shobha Mendonca and Oswald M D’Souza. In 2007, another re-union was held at Al Jazira Resort wherein Marissa Bidappa and Johnson Samuel were the chairpersons. In 2009, for the first time the venue was shifted to Sharjah at the sprawling Sharjah Wonderers Club under the chairmanship of Geanette and Sydney D’Souza.

This year under the chairmanship of B M Ashraf and Joyce Menezes, the event was once again held at Al Jazira Resort and was a huge success.

Generally, the re-unions are held once every two years and generate a lot of interest amongst the alumni. The ex-students enjoy the day out meeting old friends and reminiscing on the days spent in the colleges.

The tradition since inception has been to send all the proceeds after deducting expenses to the colleges.

Abu Dhabi – Feb, 11: It was a day of nostalgic mixed feelings for the former students of St. Aloysius and St. Agnes College/Schools of Mangalore on Friday 11 February 2011 when they met together for a long awaited reunion held at the picturesque Golden Tulip Al Jazira Hotel and Resort after almost two years.It was a moment of joy, laughter and tears for the former students to reminiscence their golden past they spent at the corridors of their respective institutions. They gathered along with their families for a day of fun and frolic from all over UAE and some travelled from other gulf countries.
The bright sunny day with a fantastic cool weather interspersed with chilly winds added extra glamour to the day’s programme.
The ambience of the location, the stunning stage gave the event an added attraction. The day’s proceedings started with All Aloysian-Agnesian band playing soft music to raise the tempo of the day.
It was arrival of the live wire Master of Ceremony Errol Goveas, gave a boost to the event when he took over as the main anchor of the event.
The eye-catching opening ceremony with young children with lit lamps, followed by Agnesians and Aloysians carrying the flag of their respective colleges marched towards the dais as part of the inaugural ceremony.
B.M. Ashraf – the current Chairperson for Aloysians for 2011 event, welcomed the gathering and explained the path they tread since the start of Alumni movement in the UAE. He appreciated the efforts and hard work put in by his dedicated committee members since the past months. Much to the delight of the audience , Ashraf equated the importance of St Aloysius Institutions of Mangalore to that of the Burj Kalifa of the UAE.
Joyce Menezes read out the message from the Principal of St. Agnes College, Mangalore Rev Sr Marie Prem D’souza. In her message, Sr Marie Prem sent her blessings and good wishes and expressed her gratefulness to the Alma Mater for all the help and support to the Institute.
Fr Swebert D’Silva - Principal of St. Aloysius College Mangalore, who had arrived especially as the guest of honour to the event also thanked the old students for moral and financial support. He also updated the gathering on the steady development of the Institute. Rev Fr. Denzil Lobo, the Director of AIMIT, delivered his message to the alumni gathered of this prestigious college. He also updated the gathering on the college facilities including the new campus at Beeri, which has come up beautifully.
College Anthems of both colleges were sung by the former students of the respective colleges.Just after the formal ceremony it was time for fun.
The live music provided by All Aloysian/Agnesian band proved to be an instant success. The combination of eastern, western including English, Hindi, Konkani, Tulu, Kannada, Sri Lankan songs catering for the taste of both young and old raised the pulse of the event.
The Valentine theme provided an extra glamour to the already glamorous event. As an ice breaker a valentine game for the couples was held which was hilarious adding fun to the occasion.
During course of the programme a tug war contest was held between Agnesians and Aloysians and turned out to be the ultimate winners.
The eventful day also witnessed variety of entertainment including the dance competition for the youngsters. It was a competition with a difference, that kept the audience spell bound . Various teams brought in their best, displaying flair and grace.
There were three groups who participated in the dance competition showcasing their talents and was a treat to watch. Variety of dance forms were on display including salsa, disco, jive, baila, cha cha, line dancing etc. Every group competed with each other for supremacy and was a delight to watch. It was fun all the way.
The judges had a tough task to select the best performers. CAPITAL STEPPERS from Abu Dhabi bagged the first place while NAKA MUKA of Sharjah came second and THE FEET BEET of Dubai came a close third.
The Main Sponsors, Associate Sponsor, Co-Sponsors, Support sponsors were were felicitated. Housie housie, Lucky draws, Raffle draws and spot prizes kept the crowd eager and alert right throughout the day. There were lot of prizes for grabs.
The Novelty dance too had attractive prizes, it was an excellent opportunity for the attendees to mingle with each other.
The foot tapping music provided by Aloysian Agnesian band kept the audience on their toes and gave ample opportunity for the young and old to dance to their hearts content.
The children kept occupied throught the day by means of face painting, clowns and jumping castles with lot of gifts and goodies to take home.

Errol Goveas, the charismatic Master of Ceremony did a splendid job by his unique style keeping audience on their toes.
The last session of the day – the ever popular Baila session stole the show and was the ultimate, wherein the crowd became ecstatic and wanted more as the final number was played. The whole crowd joined for the dance swaying and dancing to the tune of the fantastic music provided by the band.
It was indeed a memorable event and a day to remember for long time to come. The organizers had worked hard to make this event a great success and have to be applauded.
